AAR | Abbreviation for:
- Against All Risks (insurance clause). |

Accessorial Charges | Charges that are applied to the base tariff rate or base contract rate, e.g., bunkers, container, currency, destination/delivery. |
Add-Ons | Additional charges above ocean freight. |
Ad Valorem | A term from Latin meaning, "according to value." Import duty applied as a percentage of the cargo's dutiable value. |
Advising Bank | A bank operating in the seller's country that handles letters of credit on behalf of a foreign bank. |
AI | All Inclusive. |
All Water | A shipment that is transported from its origin to its destination solely by water transportation. |
Alongside | A phase referring to the side of a ship. Goods delivered "alongside" are to be placed on the dock or barge within reach of the transport ship's tackle so that they can be loaded. |
AMS | The U.S. Customs' "Automated Manifest System." |

1. A fixed amount which a transportation line agrees to accept in a dividing joint rate.
2. A fixed amount added to or deducted from one station to make a rate from another station. 3. A fixed amount added to or deducted from a rate to one station to make a rate to another station. |
